All along the path here the ground is covered with low, deep green, pinelike plants. Although referred to as a “running pine” or “ground cedar”, they are neither, but rather club mosses (genus Lycopodium), descendants of the ancient giant horsetails and club-moss trees that fed dinosaurs 300 million years ago.
